Production: Week 2

In the past week I had my photo-shoot for my product and managed to develop my double page spread on InDesign. Skills I developed on InDesign during the production was how to add a text flow, quote insert and make the first letter of the article bigger. The text flow enables the article to be more efficient, the quote inset and the first letter of the article being in a bigger font makes the article look more exciting and more appealing to the reader instead of it just being a boring print throughout.
During my photoshoot, I developed skills that helped me to create the affect I was looking for in my pictures, for example:
The picture on the left is much more effective in portraying the sad, hopeless look on the model on the right's face than that of the photo on the right, all due to the fact she is looking down at the ground. Little skills like this, and the zoom of the picture I learnt are very important to create the perfect photograph. For exampole, the photo on the left also fits exactly around their figures making it more effective as they stand out more, whereas the photo on the right is more zoomed out.

Skills I developed on photoshop included editing the photos to desaturate the image, and using the brush tool to go around the background to make it blend white to fit the background of the page. For example:

As you can see, the photograph on the left has a greyish background, but the background of my front cover is white, therefore I had to turn the grey background to white. To do this, I used the brush tool with a low opacity of 40% to blend the background of the image into white.

Here, as you can see the photograph on the right is exactly the same as the left but desaturated, this was to create a bland effect to emphasise the negative effects of alcohol. However, to improve this further I could desaturise only the model on the right and leave the model on the left to further emphasise the contrast between them as good and bad students due to the influence of alcohol.

I was very happy with the results of my photoshoot as the images portray the story I was looking for perfectly through everything from facial expressions to props. Nothing went wrong and therefore no contingencies were needed to put it right. Now I have my photoshoot completes, I can focus on the final products of my double page spread and get started on completing my front cover in time for the final deadline.

First attempt at InDesign - InDesign 'disability' DPS.

This was my first attempt at InDesign. Here, I developed the 'Rule of Three' skills with the pictures. For example, they are tilted and overlapping eachother. To do this, I input the picture, cicked on the black arrow tool to square off the image, drew a square around the image to select it, and filled the background selected around the image in wite. I then shuffled that picture out of the way and did the same with another image. I then used the rotation tool to place the pictures on a diagonal slant - used the effects tool to add a drop shadow, and right clicked te image to bring it to the front so that it overlapped the other image. Also, I developed skills with adding text and adding a bold outline around the text. I used these skilly to make the text bold so that it would stand out from the page. I also added bright colours to the first and last words to emphasis them.

Photoshop - spot removals

To imrove my Photosp skills, I watched spot removal tutorials and practiced on this before i mage.

Creative writing

For a creative writing piece I produced a brief for my article. Within these paragraphs I made sure I used both 1st and 2d person narrative:

Mondays: The dreaded day we get back to ‘working hard’ after a weekend of fun. The day we begin counting down to Friday to relive the fun again. Fridays: The day we can drink away the week of work and responsibility, or to spend hours preparing cute outfits for the big party Saturday. We like to get ridiculously drunk and do stupid things that create memories because we can! We wake up the next morning with a mouth like sandpaper, hair sticking up at all angles pretty much resembling a bird’s nest, oh and the embarrassing, ugly photo’s tagged with your name on Facebook for the world to see... this is how you spend your weekends, because it’s fun right?

I then rewrote this using a 3rd person narrative voice:

Mondays: The dreaded day everyone sets off back to ‘working hard’ after a weekend of fun. The day people begin counting down to Friday to relive the fun again. Fridays: The day everyone can drink away the week of work and responsibility, or to spend hours preparing various cute outfits for the big party Saturday. Everyone like to get ridiculously drunk and do stupid things that create memories just like Molly. Molly then wakes up the next morning with a mouth like sandpaper, hair sticking up at all angles pretty much resembling a bird’s nest. This is how Molly spends her weekends, because it’s fun right?
