photoshop vampire effect

To create the vampire effect on this photo, I first darkened the area around the eyes. To do this I uploaded the photo onto Photoshop, clicked on the burn tool and covered the area around the eyes. Next I used the sponge tool then set it to desaturate - to desaturate the picture to create the pale vampire skin effect - and spread it around her face, neck and ear, making sure I didn't use it on her eyes, lips or teeth. I then used the magnetic lasso tool, zoomed right in on her teeth, clicked around the tooth to select it, then I clicked on the transform tab, warp and then lengthened the shape of the teeth to make them look like vampire teeth. When done, I pressed Enter then Cntrl D on the keyboard. Finally I created a new layer, clicked the brush tool and coloured the eyes in red (using opacity) to create the red eye effect.

CD cover project

Here I focused on developing my skills with brushes on Photoshop. To do this I created this CD Front Cover. To use different brushes I downloaded the file of the brush I wanted, the opened the file, right clicked it, clicked extract all and extracted it to another file so that I could access it on Photoshop. To access it from Photoshop I clicked the window tab, brush and then selected the brush I wanted to use. In this case it was the flower in the bottom right corner. I now feel confident using brushes.

Photo editing

This was the orginial, unedited photograph. I opened this photo into photoshop in order to add effects to it.

This is my autocolour edited image. To add the autocoloured affect onto my picture on photoshop I opened the orginial image, clicked the image tab and then autocolour. This effect brings out the colour in the photograph and makes it seem more radiant and lively.
This is my desaturated edited image with the brightness and contrast also edited. To desaturate the image, I opened the original photograph into photoshop, clicked the image tab the adjustments then the desaturate button. This removed the colour from the image leaving it black and white. To create a more edgey effect I further edited the photo with the use of brightness and contrast. To do this I clicked image, adjustments then the brightness/contrast button. I then played with the brightness and contrast until I got this final result. The contrast emphasises the black and the brightness brightens the whole image.
This is my vingetting edited image in colour with the use of the unsharpen mask effect. To add the vingetting effect I clicked on the box tool, chose to use the elliptical marquee tool, changed the feather to 60 pixels then drew the round box mainly around the face of the person in the image. I then clicked on the select tab, inverse then I clicked on the image tab, adjustment, brightness/contrast and then brought the brightness down. This darkened the outside of the boxed face, the corners and outline of the overall photograph. I then pressed cntrl + D on my keyboard to get rid of the box shape.  This effect darkens the outside of the image and therefore drags the attention to the slightly highlighted centre of the photograph. This is often used by magazine editors to make the main product on the front cover stand out so the viewer's eyes will be diverted straight to that product. To unsharpen the image, I clicked on the filter tab, sharpen then unsharpen mask and reduced it to 2.2 pixels. This makes the eyes in particular sharpen so that they're more clearer in the image.

Front cover & Evaluation.

To create background the final product I photographed a member of my class. This helped me gain skills in photography and also I produced and edited my front cover on photo shop and therefore gained skills in using Photoshop.
To capture my final photograph, I mastered using manual focus learning about how to use the focus rings on the camera and how to adjust the focus of the photograph to prevent the picture being blurry and out of focus. I also learnt to zoom in and out with the use of the zoom lens. I learnt that in order to position myself to get the ideal head and shoulders shot, the T-stance would make this easier as it enables me to position myself so I can easily lean towards what I am photographing and I learnt how to use that whilst photographing. At times I took he photo landscape rather than portrait, this caused problems as to put this on my front cover i was to crop it to make it fit and this would be unnecessary. I tried to position the light in order to keep shadows off the person I was photographing. For example, when back lit shadows were cast across is person whereas when side lit or front lit they were out of sight and the person was highlighted.
With the composition I tried to use the rule of thirds and keep the eyeline in the top third of the page. However, when I looked back through the photographs I found I had started to forget about it and in some photos found the eyeline too low, more across the centre of the page than in the top third. My subject was confident infront of the camera therefore I did not have to give many instructions, however to improve I could take more control and become more confident in giving my subjects instructions.
The main tools I used on photoshop were the text tool and just the background image. I was confident with adding and editing texts however I found it harder to add the background image in as I have not yet mastered using photoshop and to do this was more complicated. Because I have not yet mastered photoshop, I did not use effects so I had to ensure my background image was exactly how I wanted it so it would not need editing. To improve this, I will practise using photoshop and explore using all tools and effects. The font I used for the name of the magazine I downloaded; I chose this font as it matches the name of the magazine, edgey. I downloaded them off the internet into my documents so I could then import it and use it straight off Photoshop. I used a colour scheme for my text of purple, black, white and grey. Ised these colours because I find them edgey and attractive to both male and females, therefore they will appeal to my target audience. To improve my front cover I could offer the target audience something, such as give them the chance to win tickets to see a popular artist. This would attract buyers as it appeals to them. Also, I could master photoshop to add in more pictures and effects to make the magazine more proffesional, edgey, attractive and have more going on. The strengths of my magazine cover was that it appeals to the target audience, and I kept the edgey theme with the colour scheme heading and the name Edge.

Photo composition

This photo was taken when I felt confident about using manual focus. Though the photo is in focus, I had not taken into account the lighting as the colours have been bleached out and a shadow is cast across him. Therefore, this enabled me to realise the importance of the lighting when taking photographs. Also, his eyeline is below 3rd line therefore this was to be taken more accurately.

This photo taken when I was still getting used to manual focus. As you can see, the photograph is out of focus and therefore appears to be blurry. To improve I practised using manual focus to make the photographs clear.

Here, the person's face is shadowed and therefore unclear as I still had not yet mastered using lighting to make my photographs more ideal. To improve this I practised taking photographs from different angles in order to use the lighting to get the photograph I wanted.

This photograph is an example of the result once I managed to practise getting the lighting accurate. The light source if behind him therefore no shadows are cast across the picture. The picture is in focus and also I managed to master the 3rd eye line in this photograph.
